Deadline – one promising reminder app

I am always looking for simplicity when it comes to apps, whatever the app is. When an app is bloated with functionalities, it might be useful for some people, but half the time you might not use every single feature. This is made worse if it’s not a free app.

A simple app that handles only a specific task, gives the most satisfaction as the moment you use that specific task, you have already fully utilized the app, making the free / paid app worthwhile.

Deadline is one such app. Deadline app is a free web app, focuses on one core functionality, managing the items that you need to remember and get reminded of. Unlike what you would expect, Deadline uses “human language” such that when you type “Pay bills next Friday”, the app strips off “next Friday” and places only the words “Pay bills” on the list, and send you a reminder next Friday via email. Think of it like a personal assistant.

Reminder options:

  1. Get reminders via email
  2. Delay emails with one click
  3. Setting your instant messenger ID in your Deadline’s settings will allow reminders to be sent via IM.
  4. Mobile phone interface if you access deadlineapp.com/mob
  5. Unique deadline email address to email items to, rather than login to the web app
  6. Subscribe to your Deadline via RSS feed or iCal
This app reminds me of I want Sandy, a more feature rich “Personal Assistant” web app. Similarly, you send emails to “Sandy” telling her to remind you about stuff on certain dates.
I prefer the simplicity of Deadline, an iPhone app for this would be perfect!
